Gas or electric — which furnace is right for your home?

If you already have a gas line, a modern high-efficiency gas furnace is usually the lowest operating cost for a straight furnace replacement. If you don’t have gas, an electric furnace works — but for most Island homes, a heat pump ends up being the better spend once you factor in cooling and BC rebates. FAQs

How much does a new furnace cost on Vancouver Island?
Most gas furnace replacements land between $5,000 and $9,000 installed, depending on the size of the home and whether venting or gas line changes are needed. Electric furnace installs are usually $3,500–$6,000. We quote fixed price after an on-site visit — no surprises.

Do you offer emergency furnace repair?
Yes. Call us — we hold same-day slots for no-heat calls whenever we can. You’ll know the diagnostic fee before we come out.

How often should a furnace be serviced?
Once a year, before the heating season. It’s a manufacturer warranty requirement on almost every modern furnace, and it’s the difference between a $180 maintenance visit and a $2,000 emergency repair in February.

Should I repair my old furnace or replace it?
If it’s over 15 years old and the repair is more than half the cost of a new install, replacement is usually the smarter spend — especially with the rebates available on heat pumps right now. We’ll tell you honestly on the visit.

Do you pull permits?
Yes — where a permit is required (most gas work, panel upgrades), Sasquatch pulls it. That’s part of the quoted price, not an extra.

Can I get rebates on a new furnace?
Rebates are heavily weighted toward heat pumps right now, not straight furnace replacements. The BC Home Renovation Rebate offers up to $4,000 for a qualifying heat pump, and up to $13,000 for income-qualified households through the Energy Savings Program. If you’re set on a furnace, ask us about it anyway — sometimes a hybrid setup unlocks part of the rebate.
